About i-Saksham

India is plagued by the education crisis. While the government is taking sincere efforts to improve provisioning of education, constraints especially in the backward areas such as poor availability of teachers, under-resourced schools, multi-grade classrooms, etc. have resulted in poor learning levels time and again.

Apart from this, education systems have largely been around rote learning globally making learning a gruelling task and also eradicating a child’s imagination and ability to rationalise things.

i-Saksham Education and Learning Foundation was established in 2015 by three ex-Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellows as a response to the challenges of education witnessed by them during their fellowship in Jamui and Munger, two of the extremism affected districts in Bihar.

Our Approach

Just like the proverb, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’, it truly takes a community led by its youth to change its destiny and find solutions to the vaccum left by state and market forces.

Capacity building of edu-leaders

i-Saksham builds local youths as community edu-leaders, in socio-economically backward areas, by developing their capacity in modern pedagogy practices and use of digital technology. These youths undergo a 2-year fellowship program to enrich the educational experiences of underserved children either in government schools or at their enterprising community learning centres.

Partnership with schools / establishing community learning centers

The edu-leaders help students discover and learn the concepts through pedagogy tools like differentiated teaching, story-telling, learning activities, and hands-on experiments, etc. This is further aided with teaching learning materials (TLMs) and technology such as use of tablets, educational apps and others.

Community engagement

The fellows engage with parents and community institutions such as women self help groups (SHG), school management committees (SMC), etc. and encourage their participation in the learning journey of their children. This in turns empowers the various stakeholders at grassroots.
